about me blog photos pageants

I think there is a common misconception about pageants and the women who compete across the globe.  This is partially to blame because of the stereotype created by reality television, comedic movies, and because majority of  the publicity covering anything pageant related tends to be scandalous. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. Knowing this, I have learned how to not judge any book by its cover. This pertains to everything in life. We can't judge anything based on stereotypes or what we have heard. Knowledge is power, and the more you know the more you will understand why the women who have competed in this sport (yes... It is a sport) have gone on to become some of the most successful and inspiring women of our time.

The history speaks for itself, with hundreds of success stories of former competitors turned famous including Oprah Winfrey, Diane Sawyer, Gretchen Carlson, Vanessa Williams, Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, and Eva Longoria to name a few. To me, you can always spot a pageant girl in a room. There is usually an air to her, expressing compassion mixed with confidence.

Personally, I have grown tremendously through pageantry and understand that there is much more than just looking pretty and prancing around on a stage, as the stereotypes portray. There is actual purpose to these competitions. They give hope and inspiration to little girls across the globe. They shape young girls into eloquent, confident, and gracious ladies. And maybe more importantly, they allow women like myself to give back to society in so many ways.

I am going into my 10th year competing in pageants. I can honestly say that I am extremely blessed to have been given the opportunity to compete and know I am one in a few that is capable of sticking with a goal and a dream for as long as I have. To my amazing and supportive family, my friends, all of the wonderful trainers and coaches I have worked with, and to all of the fans I have picked up along the way... you all have helped contribute to the process of making my dream a reality. I have a wonderful feeling about this upcoming year and what is in store for me. I can't wait to open a new door and create yet another beautiful chapter of my life.
